China to approve non-animal test for cosmetic ingredients – implications for oversea brands
May 14, 2012
According to PremiumBeautyNews, the Chinese government is about to approve the first non-animal test for cosmetic ingredients. What does it mean?
In the European and American markets for cosmetics, the claim “not tested on animals” is a big deal and some famous brands have made it core of their brand image – luxury and natural certified cosmetics. However until now refusing animal testing meant passing on the Chinese cosmetic market! It was a very unpleasant situation, given the fact that Chinese consumers demand luxury and natural certified products from overseas and China has one of the biggest and fast growing market for cosmetics worldwide.
Of course, this is just the first step, yet an important one: if cosmetics sold in China were no longer to be tested on animals, this would mean the market opens for western brands for luxury and natural certified cosmetics: no more trade off!
